Sailors were forced to do a double-take as Captain Jack Sparrow and some merry men berthed in Inverkip to promote the forthcoming boat show.

A lookalike of the legendary film pirate, played by Largs man Jack McDonald, made a special appearance at Kip Marina, to announce the annual boat show which runs on 10, 11 and 12 October.

The Johnny Depp double will be appearing throughout the weekend.

Looking forward to the spectacle, Gavin McDonagh, the managing director of Kip Marina, said: “We are delighted to announce that Scotland’s Boat Show this year has again been expanded and is now recognised both by the industry and customers alike as the premier event in Scotland for boating, “It is the third largest boat show in the UK and is expected to be bigger and better than ever before.

“We are all proud that the show drives around 15,000 people from all over the UK and Ireland to the area and, given the right weather, where better to be than Inverkip in October?” On shore, there will be a RYA Scotland Marquee which will be filled with marine trade exhibitors showcasing the latest trends and developments in marine and leisure products, plus taster sessions.

There will also be flyboarding demonstrations and a chance to try the sport while other highlights include a display of luxury cars from Bentley, Maserati and, for the first time at Scotland’s Boat Show, the stunning supercars of McLaren.

A range of events include helicopter trips, and at 2pm on Sunday there will be a spectacular display by the Royal Air Force’s Tutor Aerobatic display.

Other entertainment on offer includes music from Isle of Cumbrae Pipe Band, Inverclyde Rock Choir and the Royal Highland Fusiliers, who are operating a climbing wall too.
