Largs AFC 5-0 Darvel Victoria Largs signed off their league campaign for 2014/15 with a comprehensive 5-0 defeat of Darvel Victoria on Saturday.

Having secured promotion the previous weekend, Stephen Quigg's side welcomed Darvel to Inverclyde looking to record their fourteenth victory of the 20-game league season.

The home side dominated proceedings from the outset and a front pairing of David Mitchell and David Mills were soon receiving plenty of ammunition from a lively looking Scott Cameron and David Hillier. The best chance of the opening exchanges saw Mills fire over from close range when it looked easier to score. Martin Dunlop, looking to add to his hat-trick the previous Saturday, also went close on two occasions but his header and right-foot effort both went narrowly wide.

Dunlop and his midfield partner Paul Blair were linking up well with the front and wide pairings and it was from one such move that Largs broke the deadlock. Some impressive combination play sent Mitchell clear on goal on the right-hand side. Faced with a difficult angle, his right-foot effort beat the Darvel 'keeper at his near post and Largs were in front.

Five minutes later, Mitchell doubled his tally. A clever through ball from Dunlop set the forward up for another one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The outcome was never in doubt, as Mitchell confidently swept home his second goal of the afternoon.

Largs were now in complete control and the third goal arrived on the half hour mark. Dunlop narrowly failed to connect with a pin-point delivery from Cameron, much to the delight of Stuart Turley, who ghosted in at the back post to powerfully strike home his first goal of the season.

Faced with a Largs side hungry to add to their tally, Darvel, to their credit, stuck to the task, playing some neat possession football of their own in spells and keeping Largs at bay for the remainder of the half.

The second half gave Quigg the opportunity to shuffle his pack - with Dunlop being replaced by his brother, Gordon, and Blair making way for Grant Cockerill - five minutes after the restart. The change did not interrupt the pattern of play, with Largs continuing to construct some intricate passing moves and putting pressure on the Darvel back line.

Scott Fraser was introduced to the action in place of Ryan McMunn, who had performed impressively at right back, with Brendan Hill replacing Mills up front.

Largs' fourth goal came shortly after the hour mark when McKillop, clearly in confident mood after his double strike a week earlier, strode forward and struck a thumping right-foot effort into the bottom corner of the net from 25 yards.

Just when McKillop thought he may have scored the goal of the afternoon, Mitchell completed his hat-trick in stunning fashion - picking the ball up on the left channel before cutting inside and unleashing a fine effort across the goalkeeper and into the top right-hand corner.

The final change for Largs saw McKillop replaced by Chris McMillan, fresh from a two-week honeymoon in Cape Verde.

The remaining 20 minutes were played out in comfortable fashion for Largs and brought to an end what will be viewed as a successful season for the seaside club. If they play the way they have done in recent weeks, Largs will be confident of making a significant impact on Division Two next season.

The club would like to thank MacAulay's Bar and McMillan Motors for their continued support.

Largs: Connick, McMunn, McKillop, McGowan, Turley, Cameron, Dunlop. M, Blair, Hillier, Mitchell, Mills. Subs: Fraser, Cockerill, Dunlop. G, Hill, McMillan.
