New solar lighting has been introduced on the revamped Hunterston cycle track between the two roundabouts, and leading down towards the castle grounds.
The lights which are based on each side of the path, and look similar to cats eyes, charge and activate using natural sunlight and include two reflective strips and two solar lights.
A total of 229 solar lights were installed on the path. These remain on from dusk/dark all night until morning light.
It is possible that the solar lighting could be introduced on Fairlie seafront with another consultation set to go ahead on providing a cycling and pedestrial path along the seafront. A North Ayrshire Council spokesman said: “The inclusion of the solar lighting on the coastal path will be considered through the next stage of the consultation process.”
