‘Don’t cry for me Argentina’ will be the latest classic tune to ring out around Barrfields Theatre when another famous West End Show comes to Largs next year!

Largs Amateur Operatic Society will bring ‘Evita’ to local audiences in March 2016. The show will be an Amateur production by arrangement with The Really Useful Group Ltd. It features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice.

Fiona Page, chairman of Largs Amateur Operatic Society said: “The society was set up in 1946, so the opportunity to perform such an iconic show to celebrate 70 years of entertaining audiences with musical productions is an exciting prospect for members.

“This wonderful show has not been available to amateur groups so when it was released, we had no hesitation in contacting The Really Useful Group Ltd to secure permission to perform it.

“Originally directed by Harold Prince, our production will be directed by Producer, Irene Cameron and Musical Director, David Edwards who have formed a successful partnership to provide audiences with memorable shows in recent years.” Largs Amateur Operatic Society will be holding an open night on Monday 14 September at 7.30pm at Clark Memorial Church Hall, Largs for anyone interested in joining in the production. New members will be most welcome.

Rehearsals will be on Mondays until December. There will be additional rehearsals in the new year.

The auditions for lead parts will be held in a few weeks. At this stage Largs Operatic is looking for singers to come along and learn the music. Like ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘Phantom of the Opera’ there is no spoken dialogue. Not all cast members will be required to attend every week. A timetable will be organised once the cast has been established.

Come along on Monday 14th September to join Largs Operatic and get a taster of what this stage show involves. The committee and production team are looking forward to seeing a good turn out for this first meeting.
