Portencross Castle is now open weekends only (including holiday Monday 21st September) until it closes down for the winter at the end of September.

The opening times remain 11am-4pm with last entry 3.45, except for the afternoon of Sunday 27th, when the castle will close at 1.30 for a wedding.

Recent visitors included a group of delegates attending the annual European Archaeologists Association conference being held this year in Glasgow. The day trip was organised by Historic Scotland to visit ‘interesting lowland Scottish Castles’, so it was very pleasing to be included in this prestigious group. They came on a beautiful sunny day which showed off Portencross at its best.

But never mind the weather. You’ll get a very warm welcome if you come on a wet or windy day when you can fully appreciate the shelter provided by the thick walls!
