Children have the opportunity to get out of the classroom and learn about real nature as Kelburn Estate opens its new Forest School for tots.
The new initiative will be run by their qualified Forest School leader, and is open to children of pre-school and nursery age.
Forest School, which is proving very popular throughout the UK and Europe, will nurture a child’s enthusiasm for life and develop their core life skills such as problem solving, integration and emotional development, which is so important to a child’s wellbeing.
The Wild Kelburn Forest Tots will be run on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am –12 noon by local lady and Kelburn Ranger Jo Turner.
Speaking about her new Kelburn initiative Jo said: “Come rain or shine, this will be a great learning experience for children, in a natural environment and will run throughout school term time.”
“The children will learn so much from the natural environment, which is not available in the classroom or at home.”
The entry cost of the Forest Tots is geared to encourage parent and guardian participation. The first child’s participation fee is charged at £3.00, there are also discounts available for additional siblings. Parents and or guardians will be admitted free on a one to one basis.

* Wild Kelburn After Schools Club ...Kelburn Estate is also to start a new After Schools Forest Club for children aged five to 12 years.
Initially, the After Schools Forest Club will be held on Monday’s and Wednesdays between 3.30pm and 5.30pm, with participants dropped off at the Kelburn Estate Information Centre by parents or guardians.
The club offers an amazing opportunity for children to get close to nature and develop a greater understanding of our environment.
It is not weather dependent either, as there are plenty of indoor facilities at Kelburn to run different activities.
Participants are asked to bring an enthusiasm for life and suitable outdoor clothing and footwear. Facilities will be made available to change out of school uniform and into more practical attire.
The participation fee for the After Schools Forest Club will be charged at £8.00 for one session or £6.50 for block booking rate, there are also discounts available for additional siblings.
Again, if you are interested in nurturing your child’s natural interest in nature and addressing issues with after school care, Jo is taking bookings on jo@kelburncountrycentre.com and by phone on 01475 568685.
