On Saturday April 19 1975, a small seaplane landed just off old Millport Pier and came into the steps.

The plane was on a demonstration flight from the manufacturers and one of the men on the boat was Mr Beaton, a cousin of Mr Andy Dick, owner of the Nixe Snack bar.

They took Mr Dick up for a short flight.

The island correspondent reported: "The plane can land on either land or water and takes four people including the pilot. I asked why I could not see any wheels for it to land on, and a representative of the company said that as they left he would fly low over the pier and lower the wheels so we could see them. This he did and it was a most impressive demonstration and a large crowd had gathered on the pier and along the front to watch."

* A small feature appeared in the Largs News about the pottery industry in the island which was still going strong. Elizabeth Swan and Mr Donald were kept busy providing artistic bowls and pots. Elizabeth was pictured glazing which is the process proper to the work being returned to the furnace where it is cooked' at a low heat which was to bring out the artistic colours.
