Three streets in Largs have been forced to wait longer than expected to benefit from new energy efficient lighting.

Residents in the Brisbane Glen Road, Brisbane Street and Douglas Street in Largs have endured delays to the new LED lights which have been introduced to other areas of the district.

Councillor Tom Marshall has found that the delay was due to a re-organisation within North Ayrshire Council's direct works section.

He has been assured that the delays were also partly due to other ongoing public utility works in the area and the importance to avoid congestion in these streets.

The Building Services section have now re-programmed the work and the intention is to have the works in Brisbane Glen Road completed by 26 June and the works in Douglas Street and Douglas Place re-started on 27 June, and be completed by 31 July.

Councillor Marshall commented: "I have had a number of complaints from residents in the area who were concerned at the inordinate delays. It is good to see that there now is a definite programme to finish the job and clear the streets of equipment and materials.

"Once completed the new lighting columns will have LED lamps which will greatly increase the quality of the street lighting in these streets and contribute to the overall plan of the council to increase the efficiency of street lighting and reduce electricity consumption."
