The end of week celebrations that round off the Largs Viking Festival could be at a different location this year.
Organisers say they are still hoping to end the Norse celebration with something special, although it might not be staged at the Pencil.
After funding the 'Party at the Pencil' event over recent years, North Ayrshire Council have withdrawn their money, resulting in organisers now having to look towards new solutions to meet costs.
Chairman of the Viking Festival, Alex Gallagher, said: "The council withdrew the money for the Party at the Pencil this year, and we are going to have to come up with a solution that meets our budget. The Party at the Pencil has been going for 20 years, and it might be time to freshen things up, and do something different.
"What we are trying to do is put something out that might be at a different site.
"We are determined to have a spectacular end of the festival with fireworks but what format depends upon how much money is available, and how much imagination and creativity there is to do that."
"There will be a formal announcement in the next couple of weeks."
The 2016 Festival will run from 27 August to 4 September, and is one of the big calendar festivals of the year in Largs, going back to 1980. The Patron is Magnus Fladmark,
The Viking Village opens every day on the Largs esplanade, and also includes a food festival, and a big opening parade and ceremony including on-stage performances from the Clyde Coast Strathspey and Reel Society; Largs Academy Swing Band, Strathclyde University Jazz Orchestra, Largs Boys Brigade Pipe Band, Irvine and Dreghorn Brass Band, Guarana Street Drummers and Reely Jiggered.
There will also be RAF Lancaster Bomber displays on 3 and 4 September between 4.30pm and 5pm.
