The new Viking Festival of Fire takes place at Broomfields on Saturday evening at 8.15pm.

Replacing the Party at the Pencil, it is a different location for the traditional final weekend of the Viking celebration, but will include all the usual events.

The torchlit procession will begin at the Viking Village at 8pm, where the public is encouraged to join the Vikings for a torchlit procession to Broomfields.

The battle and burning of the longboat will then take place, before the fireworks are due to launch between 8.45pm-9.15pm.

Chairman of the Viking Festival, Alex Gallagher, said: "There is parking near Broomfields, but it will be limited, and we are encouraging people to walk to the 'Festival of Fire' as it is closer to the town centre this year. There is nothing to stop people parking at the marina, and walking back to Broomfields.

"We would like to encourage people to come and join in the procession which leaves the Viking Village at 8pm. Please note that all the times given are approximate. This is the first time that we have moved the location to be closer to the town, and we hope people come out and support it."
