Everyone has to adapt to the new modern fast paced life, it would appear, even Largs Rotary!
This was one of the points made during a visit from a VIP at their last meeting of the year - the District Governor of Rotary District 1230 no less!
Bill Campbell joined the local group for lunch at the Willowbank Hotel, and then revealed how an in-depth look at the rule book had allowed changes to be made bringing it into line with modern life.
Membership is one of the big issues facing any club and the rules now encourage different ways of attracting new members such as satellite clubs, associate membership, corporate membership and sponsorship.
Each of these has its own merit but allows people who feel they would like to do something for the community but cannot make a fixed meeting the chance to operate outside that forum to meet and plan projects under the auspices of the local club and contribute to the aims of Rotary which are " service above self".
President Ron Muir thanked Bill for his inspiring talk which he said showed that a bit of lateral thinking could help find new members and continue the Rotary tradition.
Rotary have been involved in many fundraising events to support local and international charities during the past year - including the Santa Dash, and Largs Rotary fun run, as well as hosting a stall during the recent yuletide evening. The Rotary were also involved in re-launching the rubber duck race down the Gogo Burn during the Viking Festival for charity.
