Concerns have been raised about large groups of youths congregating in a Largs swing park during the dark evenings.

Community councillor Margaret Wood flagged up with issue with Inspector Brian Skimming during a recent meeting.

Cllr. Wood said: "Recently at Anderson Park, there were reports of large groups of children, up to 70 youths, getting together. I gather the police attended and some alcohol was confiscated.

"They weren't particularly rowdy, but there is a problem if they keep congregating there. If people are worried, it is important that they contact the Largs Police - there is not much the police can do without getting reports."

Inspector Skimming concurred, and added it was important that police were made aware of any issues where possible unrest or bad behaviour may arise.

He said: "If it is something social and there is a group of kids who are meeting up at night, then that is fair enough, but once you get up to 20-30 people, it becomes more frightening."

Cllr. Wood stated that she believes the teens were coming from other areas to congregate.

Inspector Skimming pointed out that large numbers of teens turned up at Troon beach in the summer, which caused issues. He commented; "The problem with large numbers is when you add alcohol to that - we have carried out checks at the location but most of it was very peaceful, although we will continue to give the area attention."
