There was a dead otter on A78 south bound verge 200 metres south of Auchengarth Farm entrance last week.
Their demise seems to coincide with periods of heavy sustained rainfall. This is presumably when the culverts they use to cross under the road are running full and they have to venture on to the surface.
By my reckoning this is the tenth dead otter in these parts during the last five years.
Time for the old culverts to be rebuilt with running ledges and much greater capacity.
