Local council candidates attended the revised Largs forestry plans.
Labour councillor Alex Gallagher said: “All the developers need to do is make sure there is no plantations on the slopes, and there are no treetops appearing above the horizon line, and there must be some community benefit. These are the three key requirements.”
SNP’s Alan Hill and Grace McLean also pushed for community benefit, and said they were pleased to see the removal of much of the sitka planting from the wild open land, and would welcome ‘the removal of all sitka planting from the hillside above the town and its replacement with natural native planting.’
Independent Ian Murdoch stated he was unhappy at the format of the consultation event divided into three specific areas, and called upon Stakis to carry out a full public meeting.
Conservative Tom Marshall believed it was a move in the right direction, and the applicant was ‘trying their best’ to come up with an acceptable scheme.
