It is the end of an era at St Mary's Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church as long standing Father Flynn is stepping down.
He announced the news during last Sunday's service to his congregation.
Speaking in the church newsletter, Father Flynn said: "Having reached the age of retirement of 75 last June, and having discussed the matter with the Bishop, I will be retiring from active ministry in the parish very soon. It’s a big milestone in my life.
"In many ways, I’ll be happy in the sense of being relieved from parish administration and the responsibilities that go with it. In other ways I’ll be sad as I’ve been in the priesthood for over 50 years and enjoy what I’m doing. I’ve especially enjoyed Largs.
"However, I’m not going very far and, hopefully, will still be involved in helping out to some extent. The date for retiring is 25th May."
A successor will be announced in due course.
