AN arts entrepreneur, historian and performer from Largs has been named Citizen of the Year.
Ryan Moir made a big impact at the North Ayrshire Civic Pride celebration by scooping two top awards.
The 27-year-old has helped put Barrfields Theatre on map by dedicating a huge amount of his own time to bring his love of arts and drama to a new generation of young people.
At last Friday's prestigious event, Ryan collected the main prize, sponsored by Marley Contract Services, along with arts and culture award, sponsored by Saltire Facilities Management.
Each week Ryan works with over 130 children, aged four to 17, in Largs Youth Theatre, teaching drama, music and self-belief.
The young people he works with have put on professional shows and many have gone on to study the arts in further education.
Ryan is also well known for his work with the children's entertainers The McDougalls, having performed to over 20,000 youngsters around Scotland.
He also helped form the Barrfields Users Group, which now has around 90 members, to help promote the use of the theatre.
The former Largs Academy pupil says he is overwhelmed with the double award.
He told the News: "It was a great surprise.
"I was thrilled to win both awards and I am very grateful for everyone who voted for me.
"I started off as a pupil in the very first year of the Largs Youth Theatre 16 years ago, and now I am running it.
"I have always had a passion for theatre.
"I remember looking in a history book at school about all the theatres in Scotland and was surprised that Barrfields didn't merit a mention, so I started thinking why had nobody ever written anything about it.
"I started to delve deeper and find out lots of great shows and performers from the history of the venue.
"Barrfields had a lot of great stars over the years and even some former prime ministers.
Ryan moved to Largs from Stranraer when he was just three years of age with his parents Douglas and Angela, and also has a sister Angie who has appeared in a number of his productions.
