Largs lifeboat volunteers had a call after midnight that a yacht was suffering from engine failure close to Gourock.
It was 12.40 on Sunday when crew members were tasked with attending the stricken vessel at Lunderston Bay.
RNLI spokesman Alasdair Woods said: "In view of the situation, it was decided to attach a tow rope
"The vessel was taken in tow to Inverkip Marina where she was safely berthed."
Coastguard rescue teams from Greenock and Largs were also on the scene.
The lifeboat returned to Largs at 2.30am to be made ready for next service.
