PLANS are being drawn up to deepen Largs' links with a French town - a decade on from the two being twinned.

The Largs Town Twinning Association are keen to know what people would want from the partnership with our twin town of Andernos Les Bains in France.

Richard Wilkinson, Town Twining Association chair, will attend a review in Andernos in May to discuss the future plans.

He said: “We want to know what people are looking for and if organisations would be interested in exchanges.

“I would like to see regular links between the towns' schools.

"We need younger people growing up with the idea of town twinning, so that they can take it forward in to the future.

“We have achieved some friendships, but we want to make it more of a regular thing and build on the relationships.

“We are interested to hear any suggestions that people have to take it forward.”

Andernos is also twinned with towns in Germany and Spain, who will attend the three-day review which is being hosted by the mayor of Andernos, Jaen Yves Rosazza.

Mr Wilkinson says the possibility of formal links with the Spanish and German towns could also be explored.

A group of 20 from Andrenos will spend five days in Largs from June 27 to July 2.

Hosted by local people, they will be shown the best of the West of Scotland and enjoy an itinerary of entertainment and meals.

The Largs Town Twining Association have also launched a new Facebook page which will allow people to get in touch with them and make suggestions on how to develop the relationship.
