A Fairlie festival organiser has hit out after a Yamaha outboard was stolen from a community beach boat.
David Nairn, of the Clyde Marine Mammal Project, was dismayed to find that the dinghy engine had been taken overnight from the village seafront.
He said: "Somebody has stolen the 4hp Yamaha outboard from the dinghy on the beach in front of Allanton Park, Fairlie last Wednesday night.
"This dinghy was being set up as a community beach boat, to help with raft race, clear plastics and rubbish etc. It’s a major slap in the face and set back for good stuff trying to do."
The boat was also used for heading out on the Clyde and monitoring porpoise and dolphin activity on the Clyde.
The matter was reported to Largs Police who have put out an appeal to the public for information, and reminded boat owners to be vigilant.
The Yamaha outboards cost around £800-900.
Last year, the Fairlie Gala moved their annual event from the swing park to the seafront, and provided a more nautical theme with a raft race, boat trips around the coastline area, and beach based events and was a great success.
The Gala will be returning to Fairlie seafront in August.
