DRIVERS face major disruption this week as pothole repairs close the A760 Largs to Kilbirnie road.
The work will start on Monday and see a 1km stretch upgraded at the junction with the B784.
As the Haylie Brae is one of only three major network roads in and out of Largs, and with local businesses dependent on good summer trading, the roadworks will be removed by Friday.
A North Ayrshire Council spokesman said: "Essentially no-one can travel between Largs and Kilbirnie during this period.
"The road will be completely closed to traffic weekdays onlybetween the hours of 9am-4.30pm daily.
"The signed diversion route for the works is the B780 - A737(T) - A78(T)."

Traffic lights will be in place on the A760 next week ,the council have confirmed.
Councillor Tom Marshall told the News that while there is never a good time for roadworks to happen at least they would be completed in time for the school summer holidays.
The matter was also raised at Tuesday evening's Locality Partnership meeting involving councillors, council officials, community councils and police.

The Clyde Coast and Garnock Valley Crematorium is open and can be accessed from the Largs side of the Haylie Brae. Anyone travelling to services from Beith/Dalry/Kilbirnie will need to travel via the A78 coast road and then up the Haylie Brae from Largs.
The local authority recently revealed their road maintenance spending programme for the year ahead with the A760 Largs Pitcorn Burn Bridge to Waterworks earmarked for £105,000 of improvements.
Council roads chief Campbell Dempster said: "The severe winter weather this year has badly affected the road network across the country and there has been a significant increase in the number of potholes.
"To assist in addressing these defects contractors were engaged to support our workforce in tackling the problem. The road maintenance programme has been developed to address the worst affected roads.
"In addition, where locations cannot be included in this year’s resurfacing proposals, the condition of these will be monitored and safety repairs instructed as necessary."
