The whole of Largs town centre southbound route was in gridlock at lunchtime as these photos show.

Roadworks were taking place on the A78 near the Haylie Brae throughout today.

Largs businessman John Corrigan told the 'News' that he was disappointed yet again to see the town centre bumper to bumper, and pleaded on road authorities to try and take measures to avoid the situation after it has happenend on several occasions this summer.

Portable traffic lights will be on position on Tuesday from 9.30am till 3.30pm on Irvine Road, near the Haylie Brae, for roadworks.

Transport Scotland's maintenance arm Transerv will be carrying out the lighting repairs.

Northbound and southbound traffic will be affected by the works.

And there are to be further traffic lights in position in the south of Largs on Sunday 5 August due to maintenance being carried out by Scottish Water.
