Largs Community council chairman has stepped down with many ‘unforgettable memories’.

Douglas Blair took on the often-difficult job of heading the community council meeting five years ago, however says now he needs some time to relax

At the most recent meeting the community councillors bid a fond farewell to Douglas with a presentation, followed by a speech from the chairman himself.

He said: “I would like to thank everyone who has been involved and made my time on the community council so memorable.

“We can only do so much with the limited powers that we have and often it comes down more to persuasion than anything else, but I am proud of the work we have done.

“Just because we often get a no doesn’t mean we take that as their final answer.

“I am proud of the things we have accomplished in my time, such as setting up the Largs resilience team which helped so much over the winter.

“On my first week I wrote and asked the councillors to join us in our meetings and I am so grateful for those who attended over the years.

“As part of the community council, I am glad that we have been able to engage with the community.

“We all live and work in the town and it really is important to take on board the views of the people and listen to their views, so we can get the best outcome.

“It has been a long couple of years and I’ve enjoyed it up to a point, there have bits that have been hard and bits that have been good, but there comes a point when enough is enough.

“I don’t mean this in a bad sense, but I made my mind up a while ago and I think now it is time for a bit of a more relaxing time.

“I still plan to do my voluntary work with the church but its time to take things a little slower.”

There has not yet been a new chairman elected to replace Douglas.
