Proposals for a new jetty on Largs bay to help boost tourism have taken a step closer with the launch of a study.

It was agreed by councillors this week to spend £22,170 to look at the feasibility of a concrete jetty structure in the local bay to make the town more viable for boat users.

The appointed consultant is currently carrying out various surveys, and the expected completion date for the feasibility report is mid October.

Independent councillor Ian Murdoch said: "We have asked for a feasibility study at the south side of Quilly's stance.

"It is better than siting it on the north side which is too steep, as this area is much more accessible.

"It would provide Largs bay with step ashore facilities for visiting yachts and motor cruisers, and it would be a boost to the town as it would help bring more visitors."

"It would be able to let people on and off short term and dock so that they can nip up the shops, and it would help the local economy.

"How big the jetty would be, and how many boats it could accommodate, and what the costs would be would be determined by the feasibility study.

"It would be primarily for smaller boats, and consultation will take place with neighbouring businesses along the shore front.

"The point of the feasibility study is to look at a range of factors and what would be most suitable."

Cllr. Murdoch added that the consultation would likely include the local boat-hirer, and the amusements arcade, and food kiosks in the area.
