A further £300,000 of funding has been secured from Sustrans Scotland’s Community Links Fund for the construction of the Fairlie coastal path.
This funding will be used to construct the next sections of the route and requires to be utilised by 31 March 2019.
A spokesman for North Ayrshire Council said: “Works are approaching completion on the section of path between the South Car Park and Craiglyn. This section required to be completed first to enable use of the South Car Park for the contractor’s compound and welfare facilities and in accordance with the funding offer.
“The remaining sections of path will be tendered in the near future and a programme of works agreed with the successful contractors.
“The phasing of the works will be informed by the successful contractors’ workload and availability.”
The new path when it is finally built will be fully accessible for prams, bikes and walkers.
