On Sunday 30 September a group of American Golfers came to Largs to play in a return match of the Ryderish cup. The first match having been played between the two teams in America in September 2016, on that occasion the Americans won the match.
The game took the same format as the Ryder cup with four ball better ball for the first nine holes and a greensome for the second nine.
The teams were made up from members of Routenburn Golf Club under the captaincy of Mr. Greig McQueen and the American team from Snee Farm Golf Club, South Carolina under the captaincy of Mr Jason Stevens.
The teams were as follows G. McQueen/Hamish Harkness v J. Stevens/B. Stark, P. Bulloch/A. MacPhail v M. Taylor/M. Hunter, C. Simmons/W. Fotheringham v J. Barth/J. Hampy, A. Smith/M.Stewart v G. Sierminski/ T. Summerford.
The result of the competition was the Scottish team won by 5 and a half to 3 and a half
Thanks go to Billie Walker, club mistress at Routenburn for all her work in putting up American and Scottish flags and colours around the clubhouse.
On presenting the trophy to Mr. McQueen, Mr. Stevens thanked the hosts for the warm welcome and the way the competition was played. He also thanked the green staff for the condition of the course and looked forward to the return match in America in September 2020.
