Street lighting faults can be logged via a hotline number with North Ayrshire Council.

North Ayrshire Council is calling on residents not to leave it in the dark – by reporting street lighting faults as soon as possible.

With the clocks going back and darker nights ahead, the council’s lighting team is determined to ensure its thousands of street lights stay sparkling.

“There are around 24,000 street lights across North Ayrshire, so it is inevitable that a small number will have faults over the course of the winter,” said Councillor Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet Member for Place.

“We are asking the public to keep us informed of any faulty street lights and we’ll make sure we get it sorted as soon as we possibly can.

“No-one wants to be left in the dark so the sooner we hear about a faulty light, the quicker our response will be.”

Around half of the street lights in North Ayrshire are LED lights which use less energy and generate less CO2 than traditional street lights. The LED technology allows the Council to monitor these lights remotely.

The council has officers who will regularly inspect streets over winter, however, we still need the public’s help to ensure that all our lights are working and performing well.

Residents can report a lighting fault through the Council’s website at www.north-ayrshire.gov.uk/lightingfault

Faults can also be logged by calling 01294 310000 during office hours.
