An evening bus service which links Largs to Fairlie and West Kilbride in the evenings could be undergoing change in 2019.

The Stagecoach 585A service was introduced several years ago and runs from Largs to Ardrossan from around 6.30pm till 10.30pm at night.

It is the only late evening bus service which operates in the area.

One customer said: "With regular train cancellations due to weather and line problems, the Stagecoach 585A bus is seen as a reliable transport service between Largs and other towns and villages."

There were rumours surfacing on social media sites that the 585A service could be lost.

A spokesperson for Stagecoach West Scotland said: “The 585A is a tendered SPT service in the evenings, as with all contracts that expire in 2019 SPT have started their tendering exercise."

Service 585A is operated on behalf of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport. Stagecoach also run a 585 service which runs between Ayr and Greenock, providing a half hour service from morning till early evening through Largs, Fairlie, West Kilbride, Skelmorlie, and Wemyss Bay.

Stagecoach told the 'News' that there would no changes to this particular service in the local area.

A new Stagecoach app for mobile phone devices which was recently launched keeps a track on local buses and arrival times.

Stagecoach UK Bus is part of the Stagecoach Group and is one of the largest bus operators in the UK.

They operate express and local bus services across the country.

A spokesman said: "Our services play an important role in helping people in rural and urban areas access work, education, health, shopping and leisure."
