Network Rail say they were forced to make a difficult decision to close the line at Paisley Gilmour St on Tuesday evening.
The reason is a track defect with a set of switches and crossings on the approach to Glasgow Central.
Rail chiefs say the fault needs urgent repair hence the immediate closure. Network Rail have closed services in both directions between Glasgow Central – Ayrshire, Inverclyde and Paisley Canal from around 2130 to carry out the work before the start of service on Wednesday.
ScotRail stated that they will operate replacement transport on the affected routes to make sure passengers can still get where they need to be.
