A CALMAC worker has launched a novel initiative to prove Cumbrae is a 'ferry good' destination for tourists.

Rachael Murdoch, 30, is hoping to boost tourism on the island by bridging the gap between the island and Largs by making people aware of everything the island has to offer.

She hopes to take advantage of plans to make the Largs crossing ticket office an information hub for passengers to promote events, business and activities on Cumbrae.

She will act as the first point of contact for people interested in venturing to Cumbrae, armed with helpful guides and tips for visitors.

Rachael hopes her efforts will encourage not only tourists, but Largs residents, to venture across the Clyde to sample what is on offer.

She added: "This type of thing has been done at the ticket office on Arran to promote the island and give people a better understanding of what there is to do and enjoy once they get off the ferry.

"I thought it would be a good idea to try and do something similar here.

"There is always so much going on but nothing on the mainland to let people know about all of it, except of course the Largs and Millport News!

"There are probably people in Largs who are completely in the dark about all of the events happening throughout the year on the island.

"So the initiative is to enhance the customer experience, starting at Largs port.

"It will hopefully build and create valuable relationships with the island community and businesses, helping to support and promote them."

Rachael says she also expects to learn a thing or two along the way.

She added: "I’m hoping to gain a little bit of knowledge and experience of the Isle of Cumbrae and all it has to offer mysekf.

"I will be here to offer support, telling people what shops there are and recommending places to eat and drink, all sorts of things like that.

"I also hope to put up more posters and displays showing people what there is on the island and where it is. Sometimes the ticket office can feel like it is anywhere in the world because there is nothing to show that it has any link to Cumbrae.

"I have already been talking to businesses on the island and they seem keen to get it this up and running."
