Greenfingered enthusiasts at Largs Academy were sowing the seeds for the future at a special event at the school campus recently.

This year Largs Academy's inaugural Rural Skills S3 group has been formed and the pupils are working towards their John Muir award.

In recognition of their hard work and sponsorship from the Princes Trust, the school's 'Seeds & Shovels' class recently carried out at an official launch with invitations sent out to local dignitaries including North Ayrshire Provost Ian Clarkson.

Nancy McQueen who helps run the Fairlie Community Garden was also on hand to provide her assistance to the schoolchildren.

The 'News' was also invited to capture the moment.

The John Muir Award is an environmental award scheme focused on wild places with its aim to help people connect with nature and enjoy and care for wild places.

It helps to encourage awareness, understanding and responsibility for wild places and promotes the appreciation of nature, green spaces and personal development throughout outdoor experiences.
