MARVELLOUS Millport's Cludgie Cleaner extraordinaire Suki McGregor says it was a 'dream come true' to win the coveted North Ayrshire Citizen of the Year honour at the Provost Civic Pride awards.

Suki won after stepping up to the task of toilet cleaner two years ago and became an instant hit because of her flamboyant style and 'bog vlog' videos helping to promote the island.

Suki said: “I really didn’t expect it.

"I was delighted to just have been nominated. There are so many people in Millport who do so much for the community as well, not just me, but this is such an honour.

"Provost Ian Clarkson was very complimentary and said I was doing such a good job over on Millport."

Suki first showed an interest in the role when the island toilets were under threat three years ago and took it upon herself to save the facilities.

She said: "The job for toilet cleaner was then advertised in the Largs and Millport News, I applied for it and the rest is history.

"The idea about sprucing up the toilets with flowers and soaps just happened naturally. I was looking for a job at the time and I thought 'I could do that'.

"Moving forward I would like to see some of the toilets being refurbished to provide adult and baby changing facilities and perhaps to have murals as well reflecting the local heritage."

Suki has the responsibility of cleaning the six island 'cludgies' including at Crocodile Rock, Fintry Bay, West Point and at the pier.

During her travels around the island, she interviews interesting people and personalities via Facebook Live to promote tourism.

Nicola Sturgeon's arrival on the island during a whistlestop tour via helicopter featured on one of her live videos last year - and Suki also met the First Minister.

She said: "I think what makes Millport really special is the fantastic people who live here.

"I receive lots of regular donations from the Dancing Midge, the Ritz Cafe, Millport Breaks and Jane Perrie from the golf club, be it hand cream or soap or flowers."

Suki has certainly left an impression on island folk with youngster Rhona Christie even dressing as Suki last Halloween and even a replica doll of Suki having been created.
