A FUN-FILLED week is ahead for budding stage stars as they prepare to star in their own production of Matilda the Musical.

Showworks Theatre is holding an Easter theatre school as they build up to their big show.

Classes will start on Monday April 8, as the youngsters hone their skills to perform on the Barrfields' stage on Friday evening for friends and family.

The children, aged from five to 16, will all have their chance to shine on stage as they sing, dance, act and make friends and perform on the Friday evening.

Showworks' Ryan Moir said: "We have to find a Miss Trunchball and a Matilda, someone for all of the iconic parts.

"It's such an fantastic story and with it set in a school, we find it is always a hit with this age group, it really resonates with them.

"Schools still seem to cover the book as well, so it’s a good one to do.

"The kids will learn how to work as a team from the Monday to Friday, ensuring that everything is ready to put on a great show for their families and friends.

"It will be an exciting experience to perform to a live audience on the stage with all of the lights, costumes and sets in a west end musical style.

"We have done projects like this in the past and the children always respond really well to the deadline and pressure of having a big performance at the climax.

"Everyone is welcome to come along, the more the merrier.

"On Monday we will hold the mini auditions for the parts then on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the youngsters will work on learning the script, songs and stage dialogue to prepare them.

"Then on the Friday they will have dress rehearsals and a final performance.

"It's another thing for the holidays to keep children entertained.

"During the week the children also get to have input into costume work and we do some prop making and theatre crafts.

"We are really looking forward to it. It's good fun for us too and this will be the first time we have been able to do it in Largs."

Classes for five to eight-year-olds will run from 10.30am to 12.30pm and cost just £40 for the week. Classes for the older performers, aged nine to 16, are £80 for the week and run from 10.30am to 4pm.
