A UNIQUE book about Scottish TV broadcasting legend and lifelong Greenock Morton fan Arthur Montford will take centre stage at an auction in support of Morton FC’s youth academy.

Entitled A Wonderful Life, it was gifted by the broadcaster’s daughter to Adrienne Rae, wife of Montford’s long time friend and former Greenock Morton chairman Douglas Rae.

The unique item has been given pride of place in an online auction that will culminate at the annual Greenock Morton Sportsman’s Dinner on Saturday April 13.

Amongst the 60 other lots going under the hammer are golf packages, spa days, signed football jerseys, concert tickets and even tickets and flights to see Real Madrid play at the world famous Bernabeu Stadium.

The online auction is open to everyone and can be accessed at https://www.mortondinnerauction.co.uk/

Greenock Morton director and MD of McTear’s Auctioneers Brian Clements said: “The Arthur Montford book is a very special item and contains a host of fascinating memorabilia and insights into this true legend of Scottish broadcasting. It is a remarkable piece of sporting memorabilia and I am sure it will attract a lot of interest in the auction.

Arthur worked for a variety of print and radio outlets, including the Tele, before joining Scottish Television in August 1957, where he anchored STV’s flagship sports programme Scotsport for 32 years.

He was a lifelong Morton fan and served as a director of the club for several years. After stepping down as a director, he continued his affiliation with the club as an honorary vice-president.

He passed away aged 85 in November 2014.
