DEDICATED Largs Thistle volunteer Arthur Rippe has passed away in his early 70s.

A faithful supporter in recent years, Arthur travelled from the Isle of Bute to games home and away and helped out at Barrfields as a club committee member.

Arthur, was aged 72, and was a popular character behind the scenes with a wry sense of humour which will be much missed around the club.

"Arthur is a former winner of the Archie Dickie Award for services to Largs Thistle and was delighted to learn his club had reached the 2019 Scottish Junior Cup final at the weekend.

"We pass on our deepest condolences to the Rippie family and friends."

Tributes have poured in to Arthur, including one from club President Peter Connor.

He said: "I was very sorry to hear this. Sad news indeed and our thoughts are with his family.

"Arthur will be missed by everyone at Largs Thistle."

Thistle manager Stuart Davidson said: "I was gutted to hear this. Arthur always had encouraging words for myself and the team and had time for everyone. He will be very sadly missed at Barrfields."
