The fundraisers behind the voluntary Largs Lifeboat are sending out an SOS to the local public for a new secretary.

The very active RNLI Fundraising Branch in Largs is looking forward to its AGM next month.

Members will hear the excellent news in the Annual Branch Report that over £43, 000 was raised last year from events and donations.

Spokeswoman Cathy Holgate said: "This is a tremendous result that all members, volunteers and supporters can be proud of!

"But there is some not so good news too.

"The Branch is losing its secretary who has made a tremendous contribution in the number of years she has been in post, and it has been desperately but unsuccessfully trying to find a new one. So are you looking for a challenge? Can you help? What would be involved?

"The person would be a vital link in ensuring communication between local members and HQ by passing on information, dealing with correspondence, attending committee and other meetings--most of which are held during the day--dealing with correspondence, and helping with the administration relating to fundraising events.

"There is a minute secretary who takes notes and produces the minutes of meetings. The position is voluntary but expenses will be reimbursed."

The present Secretary, Linn Munton, says “The person we are looking for needs to have access to a laptop/ computer, printer and scanner and be computer literate, be organised and efficient, have some experience in administration and have the ability to meet deadlines, and have enthusiasm for helping at local fundraising events and activities.”

The committee are a friendly, cheerful, busy but flexible group and joining and working with it would be a warm, welcoming experience.

Cathy Holgate added: “This could be a worthwhile role for a local person who could really make a difference in the community, and help to raise funds that contribute to saving lives at sea.

"The current secretary will be staying on the committee so will be available to help the new person settle in.”
