AN award-winning bar restaurant in Largs town centre has gone up for sale - with a price tag of almost £400,000.

Lounge restaurant, club room and roof terrace area has gone on the market on the CDLH website, which is run by a specialist firm of chartered surveyors.

The Main Street venue, which includes ballroom area with 90 restaurant covers, function room club area, enjoyed a prime position in the town.

According to the sellers, the premises, which is owned by local businessman Stephen McDonald, was initially put up for sale for £495,000 before the asking price was dropped by £100,000.

The venue is described by CDLH as an 'established and highly profitable business' in the town.

Mr McDonald declined to comment when approached by the News earlier this week about the future of the business.

It is currently unclear if there has been any expressions of interest or offers tabled.

In 2014, Lounge was named as Scotland's best bar and it has also won the Scottish Licensed Trade News Independent Bar of the Year award in 2009 and Largs Night Venue of the Year in 2007.

In 2017 it was again named as Scotland's best independent bar at the Scottish Entertainment and Hospitality Awards.

As well as hosting live music including Horse, Hue and Cry, Benny Gallagher of Gallagher and Lyle fame, Lounge is also a wedding venue, and has also hosted an extensive number of charity events.

There are also folk nights and it has also attracted top comedians including Limmy, Fred MacAulay and Raymond Mearns. The venue featured on the ITV2 show Dinner Date last year.

The Lounge website described the premises as a 'multi-faceted, multi-award winning hospitality venue with highly skilled and driven individuals both front and back house'

The CDLH website describes the premises at 33-43 Main Street as a 'fantastic traditional building with great trading areas.' with 'very rare and highly desirable fully serviced roof terrace with late license.'

Lounge opened in the early 2000s after a major restoration of the former Mackay tearooms and Carriages night club venue in the late 80s/early 90s.

Mr McDonald declined to comment when approached by the News earlier this week about the future of the business.
