THE long-awaited £25,000 solar powered compactor bins designing to combat the Largs litter problem will arrive in time for the busy Easter holiday period.
Independent councillor Ian Murdoch told the News that he was pleased that the bins would be in place on the prom for one of the busiest times of the year for local businesses.
With temperatures expected to reach 19C on Good Friday, traders expected a busy time.
The seagull and rat-proof bins will be installed this week and it is hoped the compressors will curb the problem that has often turned the seafront into an eyesore.
The bins were trialled a few years ago in the town centre and credited with helping improve the attractiveness of the town.
Twilight prom cleaning shifts will also be brought back too.
Cllr Murdoch added: "The four big belly bins will be installed this week and there will be twilight shifts to cover the checking of the bins on all of the Easter weekend, as well as the parking marshals.
"All we need now is some really hot nice weather, better parking and lots of visitors."
