Emergency repairs are taking place within the Garrison grounds after an electrical fault.

It is unfortunate timing on the eve of the start of the busy tourism period.

The Garrison House Board and Management would like to advise that they have some major earthworks to undertake within Garrison House grounds as a consequence.

Michael Bertram, CEO of Garrison House Board and Management said: "SSE are here to rectify a reported break in the electrical supply cables coming in from the College Street main substation.

"The break was located to four points between the East and West entrances into Garrison House grounds.

"The last located break is located under the archway outside the Newton Bar. To rectify this fault would require major disruption to the front entrance.

"The best solution is therefore to lay another three phase cable at the rear of Garrison House.

"This will necessitate picking up the cable at the edge of and digging up around, the Energy Room. SSE will need to excavate a new track behind the courtyard wall and then lay 100 metres of new cabling down to the switch box, which is located opposite West Lodge.

"This could not have come at a worst time, as it will also require another track to be dug into the middle of the newly cleared section [the old mounds] however that is still preferable to digging up the main entrance.

"We therefore ask members of the public to work with us whilst these essential repairs are completed and exercise caution when moving around at the rear of Garrison House, until these works are finalised."

"Many thanks in advance, for your co-operation and understanding."
