Meigle resident Archie Burleigh is calling for signs on the busy A78 north of Largs after another otter death at the location recently.

In a letter to Transport Scotland chiefs, Mr Burleigh said: "Another otter reported killed on A78 north of Largs at Knock Castle lodge house, lying on verge on southbound about fifty yards north of entrance.

"I personally didn't see it but a chap from Skelmorlie called the Otter Trust and the Southwest Control at Polmadie. He also left a message on my house phone.

"Scotland Transerv apparently sent a recovery team out but we're unable to locate it.

This is now a considerable number of otter deaths at this location.

"It is time for signage and culverts."
