Largs lifeboat fundraising branch raised an impressive total of £43,000 during the past year for RNLI operations in the area.

Thanks were given to the hard work of the many local volunteers, and the continued support of local people and businesses.

Thanks were also given to the Largs and Millport Weekly News for its continued support and contribution through publicity - all of which helps RNLI events and raises the profile of the branch.

After the AGM, members heard an informative talk from Bob McMaster, Area Lifesaving Manager, which had two main themes.

He gave examples of the difficulties experienced throughout the country in maintaining crew levels because of many people not working and living near enough to lifeboat stations to respond to a call, and employers being more reluctant to let staff go to callouts.

Secondly, he was fulsome in his praise and thanks for the hard work of the Largs Branch and the local volunteers.

Largs lifeboat had 36 callouts last year with the crew spending 818 hrs on the water.

In conclusion, the plea went out again for members to help find a secretary as the Branch cannot function without one.
