Largs and Millport Bowling Clubs recently held their annual fixture for The Forest Trophy which has been a regular fixture between the clubs since the 1870s and is possibly the oldest bowls tournament still held between local Clubs. Millport Bowling Club had been successful in retaining the trophy since 2015 so it was with some pleasure that Largs Past President Ray Young received the trophy from Millport Past President John McCubbin after Largs won by 51 shots to 43.
Ray thanked John for the hospitality enjoyed by both Clubs and presented John with a jar of jam for the Millport President. The tradition of presenting a jar of jam started in year 2000 when Largs member Gordon Law made jam from brambles collected on the Isle of Cumbrae and he has kindly continued to visit the island every autumn to pick the brambles to keep the tradition going.
