Future Celtic and Manchester United player Lou Macari was one of the many boy scouts who enjoyed a trip away to Northern Ireland in 1961.

There are a few recognisable faces in this rare photo of the 53rd Ayrshire,Largs Scout troop on their Summer Camp at Ballygally in County Antrim, provided by Scott Ballantyne.

The camp occupied a pasture to the south of the village and right outside the field gate was the local cafe with a jukebox.

Archie Burleigh recalled: "Top of the hit parade at the time was Del Shannon and Runaway: The cafe owner nearly did just that when the record was put on endless play every time some of the troop visited. I think he eventually removed the record to get some peace. The troop sailed to Belfast from Ardrossan on an Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Steam Turbine ship called the SS Ben-my-Chree.

"It was an interesting trip. Outward a great sail but on the return journey in late evening darkness the weather was unkind and the open deck accommodation unpleasant especially with many passengers succumbing to motion sickness.

"All home safe nonetheless. Happy days!"
