A WELL-KNOWN local solicitor says his time serving the people of Largs has been the 'best bar' none.

Barclay Duff is retiring from local firm Robert F Duff & Co, which has been a family affair since it was established by his uncle Robert, or Bobby as he was more commonly known, in 1960.

The lawman says he is looking forward to spending 'time in the garden' as he prepares to call time on his distinguished legal career.

Bobby retired in 1983 and Barclay continued in practice as a sole practitioner before acquiring the legal business of local firm, Love, Williamson, Morris Boyd & Co in 1992.

In 2004, Alan Hill joined the firm as a solicitor and then as a partner.

Shortly afterwards the firm also opened its successful Millport office. Alan, who is also a local councillor for the North Coast ward with North Ayrshire Council, will continue to work from both the Millport and Largs offices.

Barclay has also been active in many local organisations over the years including Largs Sailing Club where he served as commodore.

The Duff family connection will continue however as Barclay’s sister Cyndy Duff has recently joined the firm as a director.

Barclay told the News: “I have very much enjoyed working and helping local people in the town with their legal affairs over the years, but am now also looking forward to having some more time to spend with the family and in the garden.

"I wish Alan and Cyndy well in taking the business forward.”

Mr Hill said that his colleague will be missed in the practice.

He added: “Barclay has been a well-known face in the Largs business community for very many years and I know that he will be greatly missed locally.

"Cyndy and I intend to continue to provide a wide range of legal services from our offices on the corner of Bath Street and at Stuart Street in Millport.

"We are about to introduce some new systems in the office, including a greater online presence, and are also bringing in new estate agency systems which will combine to allow us to continue to offer clients an excellent service across a variety of areas.”
