IT was the end of an era at the recent Largs Boy's Brigade Awards at Barrfields Theatre.

Captains Jim and Bridie Lamont stood down after a sterling 30 years of service to the local branch and received a guard of honour for their achievement.

The gala event was made all the more special this year due to Jim and Bridie's farewell.

The Lamonts have won a number of glittering prizes for their good work over the decades, including the North Ayrshire Citizen of the Year and Largs Citizens of the Year prizes.

During their tenure, Mr Lamont has been captain and Mrs Lamont has been officer in charge of the younger sections.

Over three decades they have worked with several hundred youngsters, supporting them and encouraging them to work within the local community.

Jim said: "It was absolutely brilliant to receive the guard of honour and we received messages of congratulations from all over the place, even as far as Australia.

"Although we have retired, we will still be there in the background."

Taking over the position as captain in 2019-20 is David Hannah.
