Largs Skate Park is one of the success stories of the town after a group of youths came together to campaign for a high quality facility on the shore.

The Mackerston facility has never looked back after receiving an award of £100,000 from the North Coast Locality partnership.

Volunteer mums and grans also played their part, and last weekend's Skate Park Jam was a massive success attracting skateboarders and bikers from across the west of Scotland - it was a big deal.

Thrilled gran Veronica Galbraith said: "A huge thank you everyone who came along to compete, spectate and support the jam. Special thank you to Radworx, Rosie and Ross for judging with Jack and Cameron, Cameron for compering, Finlay and Rowan , Phil, Gail, Alan, Peter and Roddy. Sam for manning the t-shirt and hoodie stall, Alan at the kiosk for providing us with electric, all our sponsors and Irene and Alistair for providing first aid cover.

"And finally thank you all for keeping your fingers crossed for dry weather...you kept it off till the very last minute.

"You helped make today a great one."
