Readers have alerted the News to a 'hazardous' road works near the old Largs Academy.
Sharon Caldwell said: "The temporary traffic lights in Flatt Road are next to no street lights.
"It is not well lit and the roadworks and therefore hazardous as traffic is trying to navigate in the dark.
"Motorists can't see what is happening, and I certainly can't."
A new power line is being installed to the new affordable housing that is being built in the area.
A spokeswoman for Scottish Power said that they had looked into the situation: "Service has been restored to the street lighting, but there still seems to be a problem which isn't associated to the roadworks. The council are checking but it would seem to be a problem at their end." North Ayrshire Council had earlier re-directed the 'News' to Scottish Power.
