Protecting properties from flooding in Millport is the key behind a forthcoming consultation.

Cumbrae residents are being given another opportunity to share their views on ambitious plans to improve flood protection at Millport.

North Ayrshire Council will hold a community consultation on Monday, August 19 and Tuesday, August 20 at the Garrison House, Millport, to discuss the progress of the Millport Coastal Flood Protection Scheme.

The ground-breaking proposals aim to reduce the risk of flooding to vulnerable properties in Millport, with plans to create an offshore breakwater connecting small islands in Millport Bay, in addition to onshore flood walls along the Millport shoreline.

The engagement sessions will be held on Monday, August 19 and Tuesday, August 20: 10.30am to 6.30pm

There will be 30 minute presentations on the scheme each day at 10.30am and 5.30pm.

Councillor Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet Member, said: “Cumbrae residents have been involved in this project from the very start, and we hope that as many members of the public as possible are able to come along to these sessions.

“We hope that the proposed scheme will offer the best of both worlds and protect properties which are vulnerable to flooding, while at the same time providing the potential to increase marine tourism on the island.”

Comments on the flood protection scheme can be made via a number of means, including forms provided at the events, online at http://www.north-ayrshire.gov.uk/MillportFPS, by email to MillportCoastalFPS@north-ayrshire.gov.uk, or by post to Cunninghame House, Irvine, KA12 8EE.

A collection box for completed feedback questionnaires will also be placed at Millport Library.

Following the public consultation, all feedback should be submitted by Monday, September 16.
