A yacht drifted from Largs to Cumbrae before coming to a halt in rocks near Cumbrae National Watersports Centre last Friday.

Largs volunteer lifeboat crew received a request from UK Coastguard to go to the assistance of a 31’ Moody Yacht reported to be drifting somewhere off Largs Yacht Haven.

The yacht was not to be found in that area, instead the lifeboat crew located the yacht in Ballochmartin Bay on the Isle of Cumbrae at around 12.30pm.

On arrival the lifeboat crew found the yacht with no one on board to be stuck fast on the rocks.

Volunteer crew members boarded the stricken vessel in order to check for damage, as there was none a tow line was attached , however due to the state of the tide and the rocky shore the yacht refused to move.

UK Coastguard were made aware of the situation and were happy to stand down the lifeboat which returned to station.
