The annual Largs Duck Race had to be cancelled this year because the burn was in full spate on Saturday morning.
A thousand rubber ducks with their sponsor numbers on the back were due to be launched into the burn at the bridge next to the Morrison's roundabout at midday.
However, Ron Muir of Largs Rotary, who help run the event for local charities, said that the fast flow of the burn made the event impossible to run.
He added: "We used the entrance at Morrison's Supermarket to ask people to independently pick the numbers for the winning prizes."
The winners will appear shortly. It is believed to be the first time that the rubber duck race, a popular event with families, has had to be cancelled.
