The main road access to Portencross has been closed since Thursday morning due to emergency repairs.

North Ayrshire Council have stated on their roads website that the reason behind the closure is because of subsidence.

With Doors Open Day weekend taking place over Saturday and Sunday at Portencross Castle, it is hoped that the road will be fully repaired in time.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “Emergency repairs require to be carried out on the B7048 Portencross Road to fix a hole which has appeared on the road, caused by subsidence.

“We apologise for any inconvenience experienced by motorists while the repairs are carried out however these works are vital to ensure the road can continue to be used safely in future.”
